Digi Digest #8

We are excited to announce Bayfield's participation in the:

Hour of Code
Friday 7th of December
Junior School: 10 - 11am
Middle School: 11.30 - 12.30pm
Senior School: 1.40 - 2.40pm

This international event is the largest learning experience in history! In the last 4 years, over 100 million students world-wide have taken part. The Hour of Code began as a one-hour coding challenge to give students a fun first introduction to computer science and has become a global learning celebration and awareness event. During the hour students will enjoy a selection of one-hour digital and stem activities suitable for all levels of experience and ages.

The basic message of Hour Of Code is that we live in a world surrounded by technology and we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. By encouraging students to try coding it will be giving them an opportunity to learn these crucial 21st century skills.

How it works:
Split students into 2 groups
Group 1: Students will work in pairs on coding activities from Hour of Code
Group 2: Students will work on unplugged coding challenges

Further information will be discussed at Techie Brekkie this Thursday, please send one teacher per team.
Senior coding club will be on hand to help with each session
Parents have also been asked to help.

We will organise everything and be on hand at each session, don't worry about a thing!

Powerpoint Burnout?
Obviously, a digital presentation is not compulsory but with our upcoming inquiry presentations, we thought it would be timely to introduce some different presentation options. All have free basic packages or give you the option to sign up to a free trial.

Techie Brekkie #7
You are all invited to our next brekkie this week!
When: Thursday 29th November, 7.30am
Where: Staffroom
Focus: Hour of Code, it would be great if at least one member per team could attend so we can discuss the requirements for the hour of code.

           (Keyboard bagel still not included)
