Digi Digest #6

In preparation for the great Bayfield Book Bonanza in weeks 9 and 10 we have devoted this edition of the Digi Digest to apps and digital activities that might be useful to promote books and reading in your teams.

SeeSaw
There are literally hundreds of activities on Seesaw that can be adapted to fit into your book fortnight programmes. It is so much easier to have a template to start with than to create something from scratch. Once you have set the activity it is easy to track which students have completed it by clicking on the grey responses bar and scrolling down where you will see a small visual of each students response.

Here are a few of our favourite ideas.
Fantastic News! We are one of the top SeeSaw Schools in New Zealand. 4386 posts this year! We are accepting the offer of free SeeSaw For Schools for the rest of the year. Details to follow.

Padlet
Padlet is an application that can be used to create an online bulletin board that you can display information on. You can easily create an account and build a new board, add images, links, videos, and more and invite students via a link or QR code. It is an awesome collaboration tool allowing ideas and brainstorms to be collected. Click here or scan the QR code with the camera of your phone or iPad to open up an example of a shared Book Review page students can collaborate on.

Scratch
The senior coding club has been doing a lot of work on creating quizzes in Scratch. It's an excellent way to present a book review or quiz. See an example below:

App Of The Week
Kupu
Awesome new app from Victoria University that uses the camera in your phone or iPad to scan objects and translate into Te Reo. This is an excellent example of how new digital technology is being used to promote learning.
Bevan has downloaded onto the iPads. You will need to pull it through Meraki.
