If you haven't already watched this video on NZMaths - when you have a spare 17 minutes take a look. They use the talk moves in these maths groups as they unpack the problems. I am sure you have all seen some version of the 'Talk Moves' I have been using these heaps with my group (Year 5s) and in class. They inspire more talk and more explanation at maths time from student to student and student to teacher. It takes the focus off the answer being all important and ensure students know what they are doing and how they are doing it. Great for word problems. Focus on a couple at a time.... Wait time is a good start point and revoicing. This is a good article too:  http://www.mathsolutions.com/documents/9780941355537_ch2.pdf I have found that sometimes you can have quite a lengthy conversation and debate about a concept like a tidy number and you will often uncover misconceptions. Gotta love a tidy number!  If you want I will laminate you a A4 poster for the classroom. It would be good to get the students familiar with the talk moves school wide.  Lizzie
